This week is Book Blogger Appreciation Week I'm told. Nice that someone (Amy Riley?) decided people who blog about books should be appreciated for a whole week. I guess I'm a book blogger since most of my posts are about books or authors, and though I'm not particularly fond of that title, I suppose I could be called worse. I'll take it. Just as I accept Litblogger and Caribbean diaspora blogger and whatever else I may be tagged and linked as these days.
Those words might suggest I could care less about what my blog is called, but I admit I do care about titles. I recently changed the title of the blog from Signifyin' Guyana to Signifyin' Woman, which for me is a better way of describing who I am as a blogger. Guyana is where I'm from and Guyanese writers and concerns will always be my main focus, but certainly not my only focus.
The thing about this book blogger title is that I don't think I am deserving of it, although I also admit I enjoy being considered in the same blog title category as Geoffrey Philp's Blog Spot and Caribbean Book Blog, who set a high standard for book blogs anywhere. If I were comfortable being called a book blogger--which as they show, requires much more focused attention than I currently give towards books, writers, and publication concerns--I'd fully appreciate being placed in their category.
But for what it's worth--title, category, classification--I'm happy to blog about books and writers I like or don't like this week and for as long as I can.
To book bloggers!
