blog, making the following commitment: I will review FIVE of the books launched during Carifesta, and hopefully the Guyana print media (and maybe other bloggers who aren't too busy antagonizing the government) will join me in getting the job of reviewing all the books done.
These are the books I've selected for review:
1. A History of Theatre in Guyana 1800-2000, Frank Thomasson. I selected this one because I'm hoping for colourful back-stage stories mostly. There's usually more drama going on back-stage than up front. Please don't disappoint me Mr. Thomasson.
2. Themes in African Guyanese History, Winston McGowan, James Rose, David Granger. This one could either give me a major headache or provide much-needed enlightenment on the subject of Guyanese of African descent.
3. Selected Poems, Ian McDonald. He's one of the "old men of Caribbean poetry" who is still around, so why not?
4. Molly and the Muslim Stick, David Dabydeen. Although I been cautioned against it, I figure what de hell.
*5. Fictions, Ruel Johnson. I'm dying to get into this one, but I have to wait. I'll explain the asterisk later.
Some of the books have not yet been released for sale, but since I'm currently reading Web of Secrets and From Harvey River, I can wait.
