A few weeks ago, Obama's statement that Pastor Wright married "Michelle and I," had many questioning his grammar. Yes, shame on Obama. But just to be QUITE clear, that was not Ebonics, that was just plain wrong English.
Whenever my students are unsure of whether to use "I" or "me" in the case of joint or plural subjects (or objects, as in this case), I tell them to use a trick I learned from my grandfather. He told me to separate them to see if I would say for example, "Pastor Wright married me," or "Pastor Wright married I." Hopefully Obama learns that trick before he gets to the Oval office.
(Admittedly, the brother ain't really gotta try too hard to sound good considering what we got right now in the White House, but man he better not make that kinda dumb-ass mistake again.)
