Two other favorites this year are by Guyanese writers. In their most recent works, both Pauline Melville and Grace Nichols gave us fresh plots and verses on subject matters outside the usual Caribbean milieu of topics, while remaining true to the stellar quality we've come to expect of their work. For that, I once again recommend Pauline Melville's Eating Air, and Grace Nichols's Picasso, I Want My Face Back.
