This is a good initiative by Minister of Human Services Priya Manickchand. Some say it’s too little, but it seems like an applaudable start to me. I do hope that efforts are in place also to do follow-up analysis of the program, and that such follow-up reports are made available to the public. Human Services should (after a period of time) have records on things like what worked, and what didn’t work, e.t.c. in order for the program to be fully assessed.
Also, I see there’s some emphasis on punishing deadbeat fathers, and conversely on helping the good single mothers, but I hope single fathers who bear the brunt of the responsibility for childcare, and who earn less than $30,000 per month, and take care of two or more children (with daycare as an expense) are also to be considered for aid in the program.
